Mrs. Lea Chua
Principal
It is with great excitement that I introduce myself, Lea Chua, as the new Principal at Herbert A. Derfelt Elementary School. It is my honor to become a member of the Dolphin Community!
My education consists of a Master's degree in Education in Educational Technology from National University and Educational Leadership in Administration from NOVA Southeastern University. I have also received additional Educational Leadership and Management certifications from Georgetown University and Howard University. I have proudly served the Clark County School District since 1999. I have held various teaching and administrative positions, such as a grades 1-5 classroom teacher, an English Language Coordinator for CCSD, an Assistant Principal and Principal since 2009.
My vision is to support and provide the best possible academic experience for our students, teachers, and parents. I am firmly committed in establishing a collaborative environment to effectively make decisions that are student focused and built on trust. Together, we are all charged with the responsibility to provide meaningful and relevant learning opportunities for all our students so they can be successful throughout their academic career.
With the help of the amazing teachers, staff, and parents of Derfelt E.S., I am confident that together we can continue in fostering a positive, caring, and nurturing place for our students to learn, grow, and be the great leaders of tomorrow.

Jasmine Cole
Assistant Principal
My name is Jasmine Cole, and I am so thrilled to have the privilege of serving the community of Herbert A. Derfelt Elementary School as the Assistant Principal. Previously, I worked as a Math Learning Strategist where I partnered with administrators, teachers, students, and families to ensure that students demonstrated success while learning math. I supported classroom teachers by assisting them with administering effective math lessons and providing engaging activities so all students had the opportunity to learn. I promoted a positive learning environment that focused on academics by working with students, reviewing their progress, and helping them reach the next steps in their educational journey in order for them to demonstrate growth. I also partnered with families to help learning continue at home. Prior to becoming a Math Learning Strategist, I was a Special Education Instructional Facilitator for three years. Before then, I was a classroom teacher for nine years. I have spent my entire educational career in the Clark County School District with the majority of it being at the elementary level, however I briefly worked at the secondary level.
Educationally, I attended the University of Nevada, Las Vegas earning a Bachelor’s Degree in Primary Education. Additionally, I attended Southern Utah University earning my Master’s Degree in Education and Sierra Nevada College earning my second Master’s Degree in Education Leadership.
I was born in Rochester, New York, but I have spent most of my life in Las Vegas, Nevada. I enjoy nothing more than spending time with family and traveling the country with my husband Daniel. I love cooking, trying new recipes and restaurants, and being outdoors.
As the Assistant Principal, I seek to lead our community of staff, students, and families to greatness by building everyone up around me by helping them identify their strengths. My objective is to foster growth, so all students demonstrate academic achievement. I believe that every student is capable of success, and they should feel safe and comfortable in their learning environment and excited to learn. I also believe that communication is key when developing strong partnerships, so please contact me if you have any questions or concerns.
